In-house fabrication

A personalised orthosis is not defined simply by taking a mould

Real personalisation means deciding what the treatment should achieve, designing the orthosis around that goal, selecting materials and stiffness, fabricating it, fitting it to the foot and footwear and reviewing how it works in practice.

From assessment to treatment

Two similar feet can require different decisions

A footprint or foot shape does not determine treatment by itself. Symptoms, mobility, gait, activity, footwear, tolerance and clinical objective can all change the decision.

At MEDIPIE an orthosis is therefore considered only when indicated and designed around a specific function, such as unloading an area, improving stability or supporting a functional adaptation according to the case.

How we perform a biomechanical assessment

Clinical process

Six decisions that form part of personalisation

The value does not lie in one technique alone, but in keeping the assessment, treatment objective and later response coherent.

1. Indication

Before making anything, we decide whether an orthosis may add something useful or whether another approach is more appropriate.

2. Objective

We define what clinical variable we are trying to modify or which area we intend to unload, stabilise or protect.

3. Design

Geometry is chosen from the examination and objective, not from a standard recipe attached to one footprint pattern.

4. Materials

We select resins, thickness, stiffness, reinforcement and finishing according to function, body weight, activity, footwear and tolerance.

5. Fitting

We check the orthosis on the foot and inside the patient's real footwear to adjust shape, volume and initial comfort.

6. Follow-up

We review tolerance, functional response and wear. When necessary we adjust the treatment rather than considering it finished on the day of delivery.

Direct clinical fitting

Fabricating within the clinical process lets us check and adjust

MEDIPIE designs and fabricates its orthoses in the clinic. When indicated, our direct adaptation technique allows the device to be shaped to the patient's foot and its fitting checked before it is adapted to the footwear.

This describes how we work; it does not mean that a custom orthosis is automatically superior to a prefabricated option for every diagnosis. Indication depends on the specific problem and the evidence available in that context.

What “personalised” means at MEDIPIE

We do not sell the idea that one orthosis works for everything

A foot orthosis is a therapeutic tool that may make sense in selected situations. The same foot shape can be associated with very different symptoms, activities and tolerance, so treatment should not be decided from a footprint or mould alone.

When an orthosis is not indicated, the assessment may lead to observation, changes to footwear or activity, exercise advice or coordination with another professional.

Individual assessment

First we study the case. Then we decide whether an orthosis makes sense.

A member of the team answers the call, provides brief practical guidance and helps arrange the appropriate visit.
